I have just been contacted by a Level 2 Engineer who let me know that support has been able to pinpoint the source of the problem:

[...] we have pinpointed the issue to be the fan tables on the server when the controller is enabled on AHCI/Legacy mode, which are different than in RAID mode.

  The case is being elevated to engineering for their input and possible fix on the issue.

2013년 3월 8일에에 업데이트 된 3.54는 Smart Array p420에 대한 업데이트 입니다. (현재는 4버전대죠)

level 2라면 우리나라 직급으로 환산하면 대리급 그정도 아닌가요?
hp의 경우 issue escalation은 되지만 그게 반영되고 처리 되는 것은 전혀 다른 프로세스더라구요.
ml110 g7도 엄청난 fan 노이즈로 논란이 되었고 수차례 issue escalation 되었지만 firmware fix는 없었습니다.
자료들을 쭉 읽어봤는데 지난 몇달동안 그나마 팬 노이즈가 많이 내려온 것 같기는 합니다.
한번 noise meter를 걸어보려고 생각중입니다. 스맛폰으로...

헉 전 6%인데.. 레이드 카드 꽂으면 40%대로 가기는 하던데 70%는 무섭네요... 40%만 돼도 소리 크던데 ;;;
