처음 설치를 마치고 /usr/bin/ 디렉토리에가서 바이너리 파일을 보니 모두 32비트 실행파일이더군요.
64비트 컴파일러로 컴파일이 안 된건가? 라고 생각했습니다.
그럼 솔라리스에는 어떻게 되어있는지 확인하기 위해 solaris9으로 부팅했죠.
그리고 바이너리 실행파일을 봤더니 여전히 모두다 32비트....
이게 무슨 일일까. 도저히 이해를 못했죠.
64비트 OS + 64비트 app 이런 환경을 기대했는데...
그러다 생각난 사이트가 ultra linux.
스팍머신에 리눅스 깔아보자는 그런 사이트에 들어가 글들을 읽기 시작했습니다.
그리고 다음과 같은 글을 찾았죠. FAQ에 있더군요.
Q) Is everything 64-bit on sparc64, and can I compile 64-bit applications ?
A) The kernel and kernel modules are 64-bit on sparc64, userland is still 32-bit, and in fact the same as
on sparc32. The conversion between native 32- and 64-bit function calls is being done via the kernel.
Allthough you can compile a kernel with egcs64, you can\'t really use this compiler for building 64-bit
userland binaries.
결국 커널만 64비트로 컴파일하면 32비트로 컴파일된 app도 64비트로 알아서 변경해 준다는 얘기더군요.
이게 정말인가요?
그리고 amd64에서도 마찬가지일까요?
